I think that the clearest argument against this sort of theory is simple. The governments in Copenhagen seemed completely incapable of acting together - what sort of coordination would be required to pull something like this off.

Notably - the traditional 'bad guys' in this sort of situation - bilderberg, club of rome, and so on are the NATO/ Aligned nations. Look at this list of Bilderberg participants for an example.

Can you honestly see the BASIC nations buying into a plan that allows the rich of the USA and Europe to run the world?

I personally don't believe that groups like Bilderberg etc are anything more than an opportunity for the great and the good to speak frankly without the press watching - and think that even if they did think that they were running the world according to some plan, the rest of the world - specifically China and India - have other ideas!!
